FIRE MARSHALL BILL

One of my favorite Jim Carey characters has and always will be Fire Marshall Bill. Bill still makes me laugh as hard as I did the first time I saw him set something on fire.

And now, “LEMME SHOW YA SUMTHIN!”

SCAR TISSUE

I just got some heart breaking news. The first song that came to mind was “Scar Tissue.” I decided to post a live show because my heart “is a lonely view and a concert of tears.”

Shir HaShirim: Song Of Songs

There’s nothing better than sharing traditions with friends. Thank you Lance & Mo’ for a memorable evening.

When good people gather together the outcome is always musical. “On all other nights,” it would sound like any other song but on that night, it was the Shir HaShirim.

Happy Passover.

EYE SPY: Child Art

Eye Spy’d this child masterpiece in my fiend’s office yesterday. It’s amazing to see a young artist in his or her beginning stages. From the looks of this – the world should prepare itself for the next big thing.

Kudos!

EYE SPY: HARD WORK

Being broke can feel like an occupation in and of itself. It’s what you do to put money in your pocket that’ll build the type of character you’ll want to hve once your finances match your ethics.

When you think of hard work, think of her.

Haiku #143: LOVE

I had a conversation today with someone I care about deeply. At the “heart” of that conversation I discovered that if you really value someone – almost nothing should come between you. Though this doesn’t always hold true – the attempt in and of itself, at least to me, is what makes a love grow and gives it strength.

Below is a Haiku I just wrote to compliment the artwork. You’ll see the progressive stages of the piece as I worked on it during my train ride.

There are four hearts dripping with love…the number 143 is an allusion to the old school beeper code for “i love you” and also for the street I grew up on in Harlem. I love it all. I always will.

I hope you enjoy.

right before your eyes
it appears like spring sunlight
just to warm your soul

Haiku #450: Sleepless Knight (on bus)

This must be God’s way of constantly reminding me of just how close I was to the egde because as soon as I sat down on the bus Eye Spy’d yet another sleepless Knight.

They are street warriors – some attracted to the freedom of existing outside of our rules, some forced outside of the lines we’ve drawn to ensure that every man and woman can be alienated the instant they can’t recover from a fall. AND all of them sleepless, though sleeping where they can.

and I cannot sleep
knowing that they lie awake,
with their eyes wide shut.

EYE SPY: Another Sleepless Knight 2

Eye Spy’d this Sleepless Knight on my way home yesterday. I’m not sure what these posts are doing to help their situation but as long as I’m doing what little I can to keep your eyes open I’ll look at it as a step in the right direction.

At first I couldn’t actually tell if she had no place to go or if she was just on her way home from work and shopping. When an obviously homeless guy sat next to her and she quickly guarded her bags while giving him this look of untrust, I realized that she must have been new to the streets.

This is the other world around you. See it clearly.
